Alemany Theatre is a comprehensive program which strives to initiate a love of the arts as well as creativity and problem solving skills in students. The rich curriculum offers students of every level the opportunity to perform in an atmosphere of caring and friendship.

CLASS OFFERINGS:

DRAMA A & B – is a yearlong course of study that introduces the young student to the theatre genre through pantomime, theatre, history, monologues, scene work, and scriptwriting. Students engage in many forms of theatre games as well as script analysis to further their understanding and appreciation of this iconic art form. This also meets the UC systems A—G requirement for art. (Prerequisite – none)

ADVANCE THEATRE – is a semester class that incorporates intense scene study and performance for the serious actor. It is a UC approved course elective – the students engage in improvisational theatre, theatre, history, one act plays (performance), directing, and scriptwriting (original one act plays). This culminates in the Advance Theatre Showcase where the students direct and perform in their original creations for a live audience.

AFTERSCHOOL OFFERINGS

This program also offers afterschool activities for anyone that is interested.

SUMMER ONE ACT PLAYS – JULY – are open to any student attending Summer Session and is a great way to be introduced to the theatre program here at Alemany.

FALL PRODUCTION – SEPTEMBER – Our opening show of the academic year sets the tone for the plays that are to come. Auditions are head one week into the new semester. (Open to entire school).

CHRISTMAS SHOW – DECEMBER – Always a crowd pleaser our Christmas themed play gets people ready for the Holiday season and the spirit of giving. (Open to entire school).

ONE ACT PLAYS – FEBRUARY – This is an opportunity for the students of the Drama Club to shine. All drama club members perform in short one act plays alongside our Advance theatre students – these theme based plays showcase all the students in our program. (Drama Club Members & Advance Theatre only).

SPRING MUSICAL – APRIL—This large scale musical production is open to the entire school and utilizes not only our student’s acting ability, but their singing and dancing prowess as well. This production is open to the entire student body. Must be available to rehearse during the week after Easter (our Easter Break) for part of the time. (Open to entire school)

ADVANCE THEATRE SHOWCASE – MAY – This is the culmination of the Advance Theatre class’s semester of study – a two night performance of their original plays in front of a live audience.

DRAMA CLUB: This club is designed to facilitate and encourage the student’s interests and growth in theatre – through hard work and creativity the student will learn all aspects of the theatre from acting, costuming, lights and sound – while establishing new friendships doing cooperative projects and having a lot of fun.
