Theodore Papenthien accepted into United States Naval Academy

When Teddy Papenthien was asked why he chose to attend the US Naval Academy, he responded with four primary causes for his decision: service, leadership, family history, and the Academy's summer camp. Teddy stated that he has always had a desire to serve his country in the military. The Naval Academy stands among the highest esteemed in the world, molding leaders of character and officers that are prepared to take on their leadership roles as Naval and Marine Corps Officers after graduation. Last summer, Teddy attended a week long camp at the Naval Academy, where he was able to witness first-hand experience of academy life, revolving around honor, leadership, and team work.

The Naval Academy was Teddy's final decision due to a variety of reasons including the USNA's unique combination of academics, athletics, and military life to produce top notch leaders.  Importantly, his family has served as military officers in many of America's conflicts since World War I. Being admitted into the Naval Academy was no easy feat. In order to be accepted, Theodore was required to take a fitness test, medical test, and needed to be nominated by a congressman, as well as the orthodox college application process. When asked how his time at Alemany has prepared him for this huge undertaking, Teddy pointed out that his involvement in extracurricular activities has been more than enough to develop the necessary skills. Serving as editor of the newspaper for three years, being a four year varsity golf athlete, starting the Young Republicans Club, and working as a sailing instructor, Teddy is no stranger to leadership and hard work. He is excited to cast off on a voyage at the Naval Academy but will always remember his homeport at Alemany.
