The courses taught within the Religion Department curriculum are designed to assist each student in their learning about the Catholic faith.  As an academic subject the courses taught in this department are rigorous.  That being said, they not only teach about the Catholic faith they help the student deepen his or her relationship with the God and thereby have a transformative purpose, they help each student encounter Jesus Christ and his saving mission.  Though many of our students who attend Bishop Alemany are Catholic, we also acknowledge that some are not.  These courses help all students develop an appreciation for their own faith tradition and relationship with God.

As a Religion Department faculty, we come with a rich academic background and varied life experiences.  This enables us to share the tenants of the Catholic faith in a way that is authentic to the teaching of the Catholic Church while also being understandable to the students.

The governing authority for our Religion Department curriculum is the Archbishop of Los Angeles. All courses taught and all textbooks used are in compliance with the directive of the Archbishop and the Ad Hoc Committee to Oversee the Use of the Catechism of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
