Information for Parents

This page is designed to provide parents with information regarding the Close-Up trip to Washington, D.C.
The dates for the Close Up trip in 2010-2011 is February 20-25th. On this trip your students will have the opportunity to do the following:
  • Explore famous monuments and memorials
  • Make friends with students from schools nationwide
  • Interact with experts in media and government
  • Experience "classrooms without walls"
  • Explore Capitol Hill for a day and meet with Congressional and Senatorial staff
  • Learn first hand about the democratic process
 
WHAT TO DO? Contact Mrs. Chauvin in her office (818-837-5278) to start the enrollment process. Students will receive a participant ID and temporary password. Student will complete the enrollment process at home and pay the initial deposit/ installment at home with parental help using the Close Up website: www.closeup.org The initial deposit is $300, which will be paid at the start of the enrollment process, and this is due by Oct. 23, 2010. The final payment is due online by January 21, 2011.
 
The total cost of the program has not been finalized because air transportation has not been finalized. The cost now WITHOUT group airfare is $1389 for the Close Up Program. However, the cost of group air transportation has been estimated at $500, which means the total cost of the trip would be around $1889.
 
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? ONLY Juniors and Seniors with good discipline records are eligible to participate in this educational and fun trip. Students who have been on STRICT PROBATION in the last six months may not be elible to participate; therefore, students must be approved by the Deans in order to participate.
 
Please note that if a student pays the deposit or full amount, and then is placed on strict probation OR dismissed from Alemany for any reason, that student risks losing his/ her money, and Alemany High School is NOT responsible for any loss of funds.
 
TRAVEL GUARD INSURANCE: While enrolling your student on the website, please do read about TRAVEL GUARD INSURANCE, which provides trip cost coverage should the trip be cancelled; this insurance also provides trip interruption coverage, and baggage loss coverage.  Additional coverages are also available, which you can read about on the Close Up website.
