From Class Notes: To give an equation of a sine wave:
(1.) Determine Amplitude: A = (max-min)/2
(2.) Determine Period: p = distance between two maximums, minimums, or starts.
(3.) Solve for B: 2pi/period = B
(4.) For Sine use: y - k = A sin B (x - h) ; k - vertical shift and h - horizontal shift
(5.) Determine translation:
Find axis of wave: y = (max + min)/2
Translation is from (0,0) to the point where axis of wave intersects "start" of sine wave
(6.) Complete equation: y - k = A sin B (x - h)
(7.) Solve for y.
