Statement on Racial Injustice

Dear Alemany Community,

As our nation mourns the killing of George Floyd, I find myself challenged by Pope Paul VI’s exhortation, “If you want peace, work for justice,” and I find myself motivated by James Baldwin’s conviction that, “there is no time in the future in which we will work out our salvation. The challenge is in the moment; the time is always now.”  Today the Bishop Alemany High School community stands together with all those who seek a just world and who celebrate the diversity of our country. One of the key pillars of our mission is that we are “enriched in community.”  This is an ideal that can only hold value when we have the courage to acknowledge and condemn the existence of racism and inequality in our culture.  As a people of faith, we recognize that we are one in the body of Christ and we cannot deny that when one part of the body is wounded, the whole body is weaker. May God strengthen our communal resolve to do better for our children, for ourselves, for our city, and for our world.

Sincerely,
William C. Hambleton, Ed.D.
