WRITING ASSIGNMENT:

Watch the following video about The Great Sphinx and type a 1 page (single spaced) reflection.

Egyptian Hieroglyphics projects are due on Monday, as well as the Chapter 7 section 2 notes. Be sure to study your notes, there will be a QUIZ!!

We will be starting the hieroglyphics projects on block day so be sure you have your supplies with you.

- Print out a picture of 2 different animals/insects that you'd like to sculpt (see pages 133, 142, and 144 for reference). I will explain the project on Monday.

Chapter 5 test.

Painting topics for art criticism and art historical essays (pick one, you will be writing both essays on the SAME painting):

- Titian "Venus and Adonis" (the one at the Getty)
- Van Gogh "Irises"
- Caravaggio "Conversion of St. Paul" (it's in the book)
- Piero della Francesca "Baptism of Christ" (it's in the book)
- Edgar Degas "Waiting" (at the Getty)

I will give you a few minutes in the beginning of class to review any notes/information. If you'd like to bring in an image of the painting for reference during the exam, you're welcome to do so.

REMINDER: As discussed in the beginning of the semester, when you are absent, you are still responsible for the work that is assigned. It is very important to check the website and/or email me so that you don't miss assignments/quizzes/tests.

If you're absent on the day of a quiz or test, you CANNOT make it up unless you've spoken to me ahead of time and we've made alternative arrangements. Once again, it is your responsibility to be prepared, you are not exempt from assignments or exams.

Art history group projects are due and will be presented on Monday. If you didn't already do so, you need to complete the worksheets.

Art History group projects are due on Friday, you will be presenting them in class. Be sure the poster board is complete and you have the paper ready to turn in (typed, double-spaced, MLA format).

Research information about your artwork (.org, .edu, .gov only), include credit lines. Your group will need to bring in the information for block day, as well as a poster board, images, and supplies.

Rough drafts for your art criticism papers are due on Monday. Final papers are due Tuesday.

Find a painting for your art criticism paper. Print out the image and include the artist's name, title, and location.

ESSAY QUESTION FOR THE TEST:

Page 83 "Compare" #2. Be sure to elaborate on your thoughts/ideas/opinions/etc. You will need to use at least 2 examples of works in the book to support your argument. Email me if you have any questions.

Remember, the test is on BLOCK DAY.

Chapter 3 Study Guide. The test will be on block day.

Finish the "subject matter in painting" drawings. Also, if you didn't do so in class, complete the packet for Chapter 2.

Search museum and/or gallery websites and find a photograph that interests you (nothing inappropriate). Print it out, black and white OR color, and include proper credit lines. Write a 2 paragraph description and reflection. Be sure to have this assignment with you on block day or you will not be able to participate in the activity.

Chapter 2 test.

1-2 paragraph summary of your principle of art. Make sure you bring all supplies and information to work on the projects on Monday.

Complete the color wheel worksheet and bring crayons or colored pencils for block day.

Finish Chapter 2 section 1 vocabulary. Please remember to bring in your supplies for the project: magazines, ruler, pencil, scissors, glue stick (or rubber cement).
