Students will become familiar with the basic concepts in the graphic design field through computer graphics in the areas of fonts, layout, illustration, and finished art using the programs: Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Power Point. Emphasis will be placed on the use of art elements and art concepts for lighting, asymmetry, symmetry, photo compositions using tools for: adjustment, coloration, extraction, reflection combinations, actions, liquify, channels, filters, and gradient layers, plus the tasks of saving, printing RGB, setting up CMYK, layering and identifying various methods to achieve desired results. The internet will be used along with personal digital jpgs taken specifically for use in class.Projects and topics may include the following: graphic artists, internet research, basic computer compositions, font effects, design concepts for a CD cover, advertisements, vocabulary word meaning posters, and object replacements.All projects should be 8.5x11 inches RGB unless instructed differently.After project 5: All composites should have the composite at the bottom of the page and the originals in miniature forms at the top of the page (lined up in orderly fashion)All projects should be saved to your H (home drive) and the T (teacher drive)Print each project once to be evaluated in hard copy form, besides the psd document

Using the portrait of you provided in your examples folder, cut the image in half along the nose to create 1. a new image of two left sides and 2. an image of two right sides.
3. create a quad image composite also by finding 3 other people from your photos or on the internet - a composite of those 3 as quarter images and 1/4 of you

Projects recolor and liquify are due
Recolor:
1 image of object with bright color - make 3 new layers of it - hue/saturation -
saturation of two of those copy layers to make them grayscale (Black & white looking with all the color info still in the photo image)
1. name one - erase (erase the object that is colorful, so that the underneath color shows through - link together
2. name the other - recolor a. using the brush - recolor the same object (at 20-30% you judge)a different color - end result must not be just a blob of color, must have details of the original
3. label and show the original, the recolor, and the erase on portrait 8.5x11
4. label the paper with your name/ grade level

Recolor project:
Using one of your photos: Make two layer copies of that image from the original and turn the eyeball off on the uppermost layer
The first copied layer:
- Change the photo coloration by going to Image - Adjustments - Hue/Saturation
- Slide the saturation bar completely to the left
- Erase one thing on the first layer so that the original color shows through from underneath
The second copied layer(the uppermost layer):
- Turn the eyeball on
- After saturating this layer: Choose one thing on the second copied layer to recolor using the paintbrush at an opacity of somewhere between 30-60%

Two projects related to each other: Door/ Window
Part one:
Using your picture of a door (can be on a house or may just be the complete door)
Create the illusion that you have opened that door and are looking in at a new scene that you have placed there on another layer
The door must have a threshold and be angled like it is open so that we can see the width of the door that is only 2-3inches thick
Part two:
Remove all the scenery from the window as taken
Replace that scene with another that you have taken and then make the glass look as if it is still there
Both projects should be submitted separately with each showing the 5x7 composite at the bottom and the component originals showing smaller arranged nicely at the top

Car advertisement:
Using a car photo that you took - make a composite with it as the focal point for selling
It must be placed on a background that you took
Add a person into the picture from your digital photos...have them near the car or trying to sell it
It should have text on several layers with different treatments: cost, a slogan to sell it, title of the car
Make the composite 5x7 on 8.5x11 background
Show the smaller originals above the 5x7
Submit at (your last) name car ad.psd in the T drive and make a printout with your name and grade on the lower right hand corner

Add an appropriate background (African location) - match the coloration and composite them to look like they belong together

Mona Lisa
Create a new face for Mona Lisa by erasing her face and replacing it with a person from an internet jpg.
Requirements:
1. Match the picture color to the Mona Lisa yellow-greenish tint using any or all of the following: Color balance/hue & saturation/levels/brightness-contrast
2. Use the clone stamp(alt-click or alt-drag), blur and filter tools to match the edges and the noise grain pattern of the original
3. Use the Edit-transform-distort or skew tools to adjust the new face to fit the Mona Lisa
4. Should be RGB, 8.5x11 canvas
5. Print plus submit as (your)last name Mona Lisa.psd to the T drive

Using the example, photo repair: clone stamp soft brush, copy/paste, and layering to repair the damaged photo to look complete. It should have a black border of the same material provided on the damaged one and will look brownish, but will look undamaged.

Using the internet: Find at least 9 objects to create your own type of face similar to the project 1 document.
Copy save pictures into your H drive to use on this project. Make a folder to organize the project all in one place

Using the magic wand and the lasso: create a face from the food jpgs given
Tools of selection, menus, layering, transformation, & erasing should be used for this project

Type .psd after the name of each project's name to insure that the lab machines save it properly
Print it out - lower left corner give your name and class grade level (11, 12)
