Description
This course invites students to grow in relationship with Christ and who he calls them to be.  It provides a context to articulate and answer their call to discipleship.  Students who embrace a faith experience and those who are still discovering "who God is" will consider the mystery of Jesus Christ and his life as the "ultimate revelation of the Holy Trinity."  Students will explore Jesus' life, example, and promise to "always be with us" through Scripture study and reflection.  With contemporary profiles of Catholic life, spiritual practices, and personal faith assessments, students will reflect on seeking and finding true happiness in God.

1. Create a new metaphor for Jesus that reflects your personal experience and make an illustration of it with a picture from magazine, internet, etc.

2. Provide an explanation of your metaphor on the same paper.

For example: "Jesus is the bread of life". I would use a picture of a loaf of bread and state my explanation as: Jesus is food for my soul which strengthens me, nourishes me and helps me to be a better person and disciple.

Write a two paragraph essay about what you observed and experienced at this Mass. What kind of celebration was it, what happened, something about the readings and music and your overall impression. Complete Compare and Contrast page 92. Find two pictures of the face of Jesus in art, icons, and popular images. Compare these answering the following questions under each picture. You may download a picture, copy or hand draw.

1. What aspects of Jesus' identity does each image emphasize? In other words, what does this picture tell you about who Jesus is? His ethnicity, his mood or emotions, his position such as teacher, leader, innocent child, etc.
2. What reaction do you have as you look at each image?
3. What do you think each artist wanted to convey about Jesus, and how does each contrast with the other depictions you found?
