Honors English 9 (Period 4) Assignments

Re-read and review F451 for your final. There will be multiple choice questions, quotes identifiers, passage sequencing and a section on literary devices like personification, metaphor, simile etc.

Start your collation of all written material for your group's (or individual) short story follow up to F451. Be sure and give your story a title that reflects the story. Remember, I want all points of view included in a group effort so make sure your coordination is efficient. I don't want to read a disjointed short short that doesn't make sense so the editor role is crucial. Minimum length, 10 pages max 15 single space. You will impress me with how your story connects to the original and makes complete (believable) sense as a legitimate sequel. Don't forget a title.

IMPORTANT: Someone from your group should bring a laptop in order to continue coordinating information in class on Monday and Tuesday. All word file should be sent in advance to the designated person from your group.

Based on the agreed "message', create
(1) a descriptive passage that explains/gives background to the trigger event or action etc., that the message comes out from.
(2) Create a dialogue from your character's perspective in which your message is clearly conveyed to the reader. Be as comprehensive as possible The reader must be able to identify the message, it must be apparent, it must reflect the profile/personality of your character. If you include a dialogue interaction with another character or characters, the flow of the dialogue must also reflect their personalities.

Outline your character's involvement and relevant dialogue related to the crisis/obstacle you agreed to within your group.

Based on your group's agreement about 2 defining events/incidents/happenings from the sequel......(1) write a descriptive passage of the one of the 2 events, (2) write from your own character's point of view, (3) and write a sample dialogue that your character has with one or more of the other characters from your group.

a brief physical description. a character trait(s) the specific relationship to the other characters that will be included in the book, what significance your character brings to the development of plot; defining events that shape the actions of your character, short or long term inclusion; background if applicable; what unique features/skills/ does your character have or not. Remember to bring Fahrenheit 451 to class first day back. As part of your pre-read, research some detail on Ray Bradbury, the author and be prepared to discuss in class.

Research how life was like for most Americans during the 1950s. Write a complete paragraph 10-12 lines, and target your research on Cold War tensions and include 3 changes in society that resulted from fear of the spread of communism in the world and within the U.S. during this decade.

Focus your reading on the consequences of the end of WW1. In particular, the Treaty of Versailles and it's specifics and implications.
Look also at the way nationalism evolved and developed in India and the Middle East, leading to liberation struggles and independence.
Special mention for Sara "Spicy" today. We all enjoy the lime tang!

Book review due Monday. 500-750 words. Ensure you follow the guidelines from the handout and incorporate as many features as possible.

Final group public presentations on Tuesday. Heads up.....quiz on Public Speaking strategies, style and delivery (not on individual group content) so be sure to start reviewing the handouts I gave you and the powerpoint slides I posted on the homework site a couple of weeks ago.

Period 6 presenters especially...if one of your members is absent (Carlos?) ensure you can cover content. Same goes for periods 2 and 4 groups.

2 more groups presenting on Thursday. As you have had the benefit of other presentations, expectations for an improved performance is higher, so make sure you all have taken note of strengths and weaknesses of what you've seen and adapt your presentation accordingly.
