Bishop Alemany High School Wins the Southern California Private School Academic Decathlon

     The Southern California Private School Academic Decathlon was held on the Bishop Alemany campus on January 26th and February 2nd. Decathletes competed in ten subjects: art, economics, language and literature, mathematics, music, science, social science, essay, interview, and speech.

     Alemany brought home ­­59 individual medals:

  • Senior Kyle Suarez was the highest scoring competitor on the team.  He captured four individual event medals: a silver in social science and three bronze in speech, music, and art.
  • Senior Andrew Barrett won five gold in interview, speech, essay, music, and economics; and a bronze in language and literature.
  • Junior Peter Wang earned a gold in mathematics, a silver in science, and a bronze in essay.
  • Senior Jacob Meade won five gold in speech, music, language and literature, art, and science; a silver in essay; and two bronze in economics and social science.
  • Senior Maurice Rozo won two gold in essay and economics; three silver in language and literature, art, and science; and a bronze in music.
  • Junior Sarah Chavez came home with one silver in music and two bronze in art and science.
  • Junior Sean Brode won three gold in music, art, and science; three silver in essay, mathematics, and economics; and three bronze in interview, speech, and social science.
  • Junior Krysstopher Wawrik won three gold in mathematics, art, and science; four silver in speech, music, language and literature, and social science; and one bronze in economics.
  • Junior Antonio Allen came away with three gold in essay, language and literature, and social science; three silver in art, science, and interview; and three bronze in music, mathematics, and economics.
  • Senior Althex Shi (alternate) won a gold in interview and a silver in speech. 

     The team is intensively preparing for the California Academic Decathlon to be held in Sacramento on March 22nd and 23rd.
