Spanish II - Syllabus

Tutoring: Wednesdays and Thursdays after school (1:40-3:00)
 
Books required: Textbook: ¡En Español! (Workbook also required)
                          Spiral notebook (For Spanish Class Only)
                          English-Spanish Dictionary (optional)
 
Course Description:
This course will pick up where Spanish I left off. We will continue with the different parts of speech and writing, greetings, numbers, colors, calendar, regular and irregular verbs, adjectives, the different tenses, and more vocabulary building.
 
Class Rules:
1. Students must show respect for the teacher as well as for each other at all times.
 
2. Students are to be in their seats when the bell rings and are to remain seated until the teacher dismisses them.
 
3. No gum chewing, food, candy of any sort or drink other than water is allowed in the classroom.
 
4. No electronics (cell phones, I Pods, CD Players, Laptops, etc...)
 
Course Requirements:
Students are expected to complete and turn in any and all assignments given by the teacher in a timely manner. If a student is absent, he/she will be allowed to turn in the work upon their return provided it is accompanied with an excused slip. Participation in class is important and as such materials like the textbook, notebook, workbook, writing utensils and a Spanish-English dictionary are required since they allow the student to more fully participate in any and all activities.
 
Testing Procedure and Policy:
Tests will be administered at the end of every chapter and quizzes will be given as needed. The student is responsible for scheduling any make up test or work with the teacher and after an excused absence slip has been presented. Late assignments will not be accepted. Any cheating, talking or assisting others during a test will result in an immediate fail of the test or quiz.

10 Slide minimum presentation on the person, place or thing you drew in class. 
 
Slides should tell us the importance, impact or effect, time when ocurred or lived and accomplishments or failures.  Think of it as doing a report on something, but in powerpoint format.
 
Remember that presentation and slides are to be done in Spanish.
 
You will be allowed notes during your presentation, but if you read the entire thing, you will lose points.
 
 
Grading will be as follows:    
Artwork:                        10 (pictures, maps, examples of work)
Sentence Structure:       10 (parts of speech are in their proper places)
Conjugation:                  10 (verb is conjugated in right tense for the right person)
Informtion:                     10 (information is relevant and well organized)
Presentation:                 10 (clear delivery done with minimal reading off screen)

Adevrbs
In spanish just like in English, you can turn and adjective into an adverb to describe how something is done.  In English we use -ly, in Spanish we use -mente
 
Take any adjectives feminine form and add -mente to it to form an adverb.
 
Example:  rápidamente  -  quickly
                lentamente    -  slowly
 
If an adjective doesn't have a masculine or feminine form, just add -mente
 
Example:   fácilmente  -  quickly

Español 2 - 3rd Quarter - Project
 
1. Due 1/24/11 (absolutely no late work will be accepted)
 
2. Working in groups of 3-4 Create a commercial ad for a product
                   (hygiene, shoes, clothing, perfume, etc.)
 
3. Must be in Spanish (use command forms and all tenses learned when needed)
 
4. Ad must include the following:
              a. Name of product
              b. what is the product used for
              c. why should someone use/buy it
              d. a catch phrase or slogan
              e. where you can find it
 
5. Must be on video (turned in on disc or flash drive)
 
6. Remember that the ad must be between 1-2 minutes long and all members of the
group should appear speaking Spanish

20 pts vocabulary (use of vocab words from previous vocab lists or new vocab learned   during project)
20 pts conjugation(verbs are conjugated in the proper tense and for the proper person)
20 pts pronunciation (sentences are clear and audible, words are pronounced right)
20 pts creativity and originality (art work, video design, original idea, etc.)
100 pts total possible

Now that we have covered the preterite, time to practice it.  Your assignemtn is to write a 3 paragraph paper on a vacation you took.
 
Paper must be typed, double spaced.  Try to keep it to three paragraphs.  As usual, sentences must be 5 word minimum.  Each paragraph should be 5-7 sentences long.
 
As a guide, or to help you with this, think of answering the following questions:
 
1.  When did you go?
2.  Where did you go?
3.  Who did you go with?
4.  What did you go in? (plane, train, automobile, etc...)
5.  Where di you stay?
6.  What did you do?
7.  How was your trip experience?
 
You will be graded on the following:
