College Prep Literature
Welcome to College Prep English 9.
This Class Website has been developed with the intention of being a resource for students, parents, and teachers of Grade 9 College Prep Literature and Writing Composition. Within it you will find a variety of tools to help you bring to life the language, the characters, people and time period within our classroom for the
novel unit on Charles Dickens' Great Expectations and the fiction unit on selected short stories. The study of these works is not just a focus on the text, but it is the understanding of the society the author lived in, the history that influenced (or was influenced) by the writings as well as the affect this has on the individual reader. In studying this literature, we focus on more than a language; we examine the study of who we are and how we are individuals striving to develop the skills, knowledge and talents which we use to create an awareness for the community around us. The semester will focus on the 16th century time era and short stories related to fictional writing. Grammar will cover units on punctuation, modifiers, sentence construction, comparison/contrast and persuasive composition writing.
