AP Spanish Literature (Period 1)
Course Description
The AP Spanish Literature course is intended to be the equivalent of a third-year college Introduction to Latin American or Peninsular Literature course, covering selected works from the literature of Spain and Spanish America. Because students read and analyze literature orally and in writing in Spanish, the language proficiency reached by the end of the AP course is generally equivalent to that of college students who has completed a fifth or sixth semester of Spanish in composition, conversation, and grammar as well. Conducted entirely in Spanish, the course will provide students the opportunity to compare works through a thematic approach and to examine texts within their cultural contexts. Furthermore, students are expected to communicate in Spanish throughout the course in order to help build crucial communicative skills. Throughout the year students will be given graded activities that will help prepare them for the AP exam given in May.
