Arts Culture & Literature
Tutoring: Wednesday 1:35 – 3:00
TEXT: Prentice Hall Literature Anthology World Literature, Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heros, and Hamlet.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This class will incorporate culture, history, and architecture and it’s influence on the literature of the times. It will allow the students to broaden their understanding of the core material through the related of disciplines of art and history. Viewing literature as the reflection of the society in which it was created, allows the students to better analyze the major themes, symbols, and motifs in these classic tales.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1. Students will need a notebook or a section of a three-ring binder for their work.
2. All homework assignments are due on the date scheduled. No late homework will be accepted.
3. The student is responsible for completing missed work due to an absence. They must complete the work in two to three days after their return.
4. The students are expected to participate in all class and group work.
5. Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in a zero on the test, quiz, homework or any written work. No makeup work will be allowed.
TESTING PROCEDURE AND POLICY
1. Tests will be given at the end of each chapter or unit.
2. Vocabulary will be given each week on Fridays unless otherwise stipulated by the teacher. Other quizzes will be given at any time during the week preceding a chapter test.
3. Make-up tests will only be given to students with an excused absence. Students must arrange a time to take the make-up test during teachers tutoring days and within the week he/she returns to school.
4. Tutoring days will be Tuesday and Thursday after school.

DISPLINARY RULES
1. Students must show respect for themselves the teacher, and fellow students at all times.
2. Students are to be in the classroom and ready to work when the bell rings.
3. Students may not leave their seats until the end of class or instructed by the teacher.
4. Students must not engage in any disruptive behavior that would hinder the learning process.
5. There is no eating or drinking (except for water) allowed in the classroom.
6. Consequences for not following these rules are as follows:
-First infraction – a warning
-Second infraction – detention with teacher after school
-Third infraction – Phone call to parents
-Fourth infraction – referral to the Dean
