Text: ESSENTIAL MUSICIANSHIP: A Comprehensive Choral Method
 
Course Requirements:
1. Students will particiapte in concerts, masses, and various concerts outside school.
2. All concerts and performances are considered exams. Thus, the student must perform in all concerts. A missed performance is the equivalent of a zero on a test.
3. Students are to bring the textbook, music folder, and a pencil to class every day.
4. Students are to maintain folders and music in a responsible manner.
 
Testing Procedure:
1. Concerts are considered tests and should not be missed. If a student misses a concert due to an illness, then the student may make up the "test" grade in the form of a typed 4 to 5 page paper.
2. Vocal tests are given in the form of a duet or trio singing.
3. Written tests will be given in the area of musicianship and fundamentals.
 
General Guidelines:

1. Participation                                                25%

2.  Tests: Written/ Singing                              25%    

3.  Theory Work/ Sight-singing                       25%

4. Performances/ Concerts                              25%

 
Discipline Rules:
1. Students are to be prompt to class. After the second tardy, the student shall lose points in the cooperation grade.
2. Continued tardiness will result in school discipline: referral, detention, etc.
3. Student shall show courtesy and respect to classmates and teacher at all times.
 
APPLICATION OF THE EXPECTED SCHOOLWIDE LEARNING RESULTS:
Choir students will be enriched by faith through experiences of worship.
Choir students will demonstrate a proficiency of critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and written and vocal communication through the reading and singing of music.
Choir students will be conscientious leaders by manifesting respect for self and others through responsible citizenship in the classroom at all times.
Choir students will strive to be morally courageous agents of peace and justice through respect for musical and cultural diversity and acts of Christian service.
 
Regarding the use of iPads or other technology in the classroom, all school rules will be respected and enforced in the classroom.   Specific directions given by the teacher are to be followed.  Students are expected to demonstrate responsible use of technology at all times.  Irresponsible use may result in the loss of the student’s ability to use technology in this particular class, at the teacher’s discretion.
